The Toronto Wagner Society is pleased to announce its’ second meeting of 2025: a presentation by Professor Gundula Kreuzer. This meeting will take place online on Zoom February 24th at 7:30 p.m.
Born in Germany with degrees from Universities of Münster (Westphalia) and Oxford, she came to Yale University in 2005 and is now Professor of Music and Dean of the music school at Yale.

Her work in musicology includes much reference to Wagner’s work and often draws from social, cultural, and political history as well as theories of technology and multimedia.
She has written numerous books, including the award-winning Verdi and the Germans: From Unification to the Third Reich, which discusses how the popular Italian composer has shaped German national Identity. Her second book, Curtain, Gong, Steam: Wagnerian Technologies of Nineteenth-Century Opera, explores how composers of the late eighteenth century and beyond have embraced cutting-edge stage technologies.
Professor Kreuzer also enjoys speaking and writing for wider audiences. She frequently provides program notes, lectures, interviews, or podcasts for opera houses and festivals across Germany and the US, as well as participating in the Metropolitan Opera Quiz.
