ABOUT US

About the Toronto Wagner Society
Founded in May 1975, the Toronto Wagner Society is a vibrant and welcoming community of individuals united by a shared passion for the music dramas, life, and writings of Richard Wagner.
From September to May, we host monthly meetings that explore Wagner’s world through a rich variety of events—lectures, interviews, video screenings, discussions, and more. Over the years, we’ve welcomed a distinguished roster of guests, including singers, conductors, opera directors, musicologists, and critics. We’ve also hosted engaging roundtable discussions with cast members from Wagner productions in Toronto.
The Society is based in Toronto, Ontario, and our in-person gatherings are usually held at the historic Arts and Letters Club at 14 Elm Street. Since 2023, we’ve embraced a hybrid format: some meetings are in-person, others virtual, but all are accessible via Zoom, ensuring members can join us from near or far.
Beyond our monthly programming, we actively participate in conferences and symposia focused on Wagner and classical music, often contributing both speakers and financial support.
We’re also proud to support the next generation of performers through the Thomas Burton Commemorative Fund. This scholarship fund currently provides an annual donation to the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio, helping young singers advance their training and careers.
