The Society is pleased to announce the following meetings:

1. September 11th, 2023 at 12 p.m. Noon, Eastern Daylight Time

Guest: Canadian born bass John Relyea

Mr. Relyea has appeared on the Spring 2023 cover of Opera Canada for an article called A Wagnerian Turn. Mr. Relyea recently sung his role debut as Wotan in Rheingold with English National Opera.

Mr. Relyea will be joining us from Paris. As a result, our meeting will be at 12:00 noon Toronto time.

2. Clay Hilley, October 2023

Clay Hilley sang Tristan at Bayreuth this Summer. He will be in Toronto as Fidelio in his debut with the Canadian Opera Company. Recently, Mr. Hilley sprang onto major European stages singing principal Wagner roles.

Mr. Hilley has been a guest of the Toronto Society several times now and has always been delightfully candid and insightful.

We are hopeful Mr. Hilley will be able to join us in person at the Arts and Letters Club.

3. Dimitry Ivashchenko, October 2023

Mr. Ivashchenko is in the City this Fall singing Rocco in Fidelio at the COC.

Previously he has performed in Toronto as Hunding and Oroveso in Norma. He has sung Wagner bass roles roles such as Gurnemanz, Hunding, Daland, Pogner and Fafner. Mephistopheles, Sarastro, Commendatore, and Sparafucile also are part of his repertoire which, along with many other bass roles, he has performed widely in Europe.
