An Evening with Jon Fredric West

With apologies for the short notice, the Toronto Wagner Society is pleased to invite you to a conversation with Jon Fredric West, on Monday April 20th at 7:30 pm.A notable heldentenor who sang many Wagner roles throughout his career, he is currently a vocal coach working with young singers – including a TWS favourite, Clay Hilley.

Born in Dayton Ohio, West studied at the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School. His operatic career spanned from the 1970s to the 2010s . During this time, he established himself as one of the preeminent interpreters of Siegfried, including at the Metropolitan Opera under the baton of James Levine, where he sang all six performances of the Ring Cycle.

Other notable Wagnerian roles include Tannhäuser at numerous opera houses around the globe as well as Tristan at the Bayerisches Staatsoper in Munich which was later released on DVD.

West currently runs the Jon Fredric West Vocal Institute. He has taught voice for over 35 years and delivers Master Classes all over the world. His students have received scholarships at many of the top operatic schools, though he is perhaps best known for his work with Clay Hilley since 2015.
